I think I've spoiled the chickens!

For the past couple of years, since we've had chickens, we've mainly fed them feed from the mom and pop feed store that's about $12-$13 for a 50lb bag. A couple of months ago, we got a great deal on some Hiland Naturals, so we've been feeding them that since March or so. Well, now that we're out of that stuff, I switched back to the cheap stuff and now they won't touch it. I've had the same food in the trough for 3 days now. Normally that would be gone in 1.5 or 2 days, tops.

I'm going to have to start feeding the kids more generic food so I can afford to feed the chickens

I'd be curious if you noticed better health/appearance on the spendy food, too.

I buy organic whenever it works with our budget and makes sense (like fruit with a peel you eat, not discard). Our hens are on organic feed, because we only have 8 of them. A larger flock would definitely not be eating so well, which is also why I only have 8 - I want them on organic feed.

Anyway - did you notice any difference when you put them on the better stuff?

Sounds like you have it all worked out.

My chickens are enjoying the layer feed I've put them on. I just have to be careful not to overdo it or they'll lose interest.
