Torrance and the surrounding cities....
Your attendance is VERY much NEEDED!!!!

The June 11th meeting is designed to have the city council approve or deny further investigation by the environmental commission into the issue Of getting chickens legalized in Torrance. If there is no public showing, there is a chance that the council out of ignorance could simply deny any further research in the matter, and chickens will not even get a shot at legalization.

Please do attend the June 11th meeting! There will be extremely limited time for public comment at that meeting, but there will be a "raise of hands" of who is attending the meeting in support of urban chicken keeping. (I asked them to put this on the agenda, so please don't let me down!!)

The commission informed me that if you would like to be heard by city council (esp. if it sounds in the 5:30 meeting like the issue might get dropped) we can stick around for the 7PM meeting where there will be more time for public comment.

Too bad I didn't know about the meeting on 6/11/2013. I really want to get a couple of hens. Do you know or when will we know the outcome?

I'm in TX currently but I saw this thread and immediately became interested as future plans may involve relocation to the Torrance-South Bay area. What was the outcome of this? Tamlynn, do you keep chickens in Torrance currently?

Fletch83, yes, I have a special permit from the city.

I just got a great message from Sherry that Torrance is moving forward with
Chicken and Bee legalization. The next step is to present information to the
commissioners. Here is her message.

"Roberta, may I request a post for LAUCE members to attend the City of Torrance
Environmental Commission meeting? They are bringing the item before the
commissioners re: bees & chickens on October 3, 2013 @ 7:00 PM, West Annex
meeting room, Torrance. A Commission worker strongly urged me to "pass the word
along to all those interested" & said she would appreciate it! I recommend
anyone in cities who still do not allow chickens to please attend. A "yes"
decision could be a boon to other towns."

Please come if you would like to help!

Attended the meeting at the Torrance City Hall last night. It was a pretty good turn out with great supporters. Only 1 opposing resident. Lets cross our fingers that the ordinance gets ammended to include chickens.

Any new word? I heard they have tabled the Urban Farming vote until they can gain more supporters.
