Do you play favorites? Admit it....it's OK....I won't tell the others....

DITTO !!! LOL My co workers are sick of chicken videos. They all scatter when the phone comes out now. I have become "one of those people" LOL
Haha! I've got tons of pics on my work computer, and I love showing them off to anyone who will look. I've started a YouTube channel since I couldn't get any of my friends interested in my little videos of the gals.

That's one of the big reasons I love this site: I get to share my pictures, thoughts, and stories with other people who won't roll their eyes at me and think I'm weird. We're all "one of those people" LOL!!

I know this doesn't go here, but one of my roosters attacked my favorite rooster so for a few weeks our kitchen was a chicken hospital. I tried the Blu-Kote and it didn't do much, so I then turned to raw honey. I put it on his neck (he was missing feathers and skin and all) and then put some gauze and a sock over his neck. Within a week we moved him back outside because most of his skin was back. I only tried it because we have used it on our boarders who have been bitten by snakes that had to be boarded because the owner couldn't care for them correctly. It worked wonders and just reinforced that I need to keep raw honey in the house!!

The healing properties of manuka honey are truly amazing. We had a horse that caught his leg in the fence. By the time we got him out his bone was exposed. We used medical honey and silver dressings and he is now back to competing at a national level. Injectable vitamin C is something I always keep in the fridge, for snake bite. If you can't get that a packet of sodium ascorbate or calcium ascorbate will get you out of trouble . Pat Colebys various books on natural animal care are well worth a look.

Two of my birds are in competition for my 'favorite' status. Cosette, the Barred Rock, will probably be the most missed of the flock. Top hen of the flock, not mean, just in charge and very protective. She defended her sibling, Samantha, seen in the background, from a Red-Tailed Hawk and ended up getting carried over the eight foot fence. Tough as nails, she got away from the hawk herself. The dogs taught her how to growl and she can really make a statement with that sound. When lonely, she pecks at the outside walls of my studio so I come out to hold her. Heaven forbid if I should hold one of the others, she must then figure out a way to get in my lap too. One time she was upset because I had a girl on each knee, no problem, she just jumped on my arm. I got a game camera a couple months ago and she loves to take selfies. Now, when I pull the camera, usually about half are of her. Of all the positive things that have happened over the past year, she, the silly little chicken, has given this urban woman the most joy.

I don't believe in favorites, it's not nice to the others.....

Alright I admit it I have a favorite,

I was selecting breeders for a meat bird project and I chose to hatch the largest hen (peu) egg we had at the time. I was so confident it'd be BIG that I pre-named it KFC.

we hatched 9 chicks 8 were boys, KFC was the smallest one of all, but he was dominating all of the other boys.

when all the other boys hit their max weight KFC kept growing and he was such a nice boy, that we kept him when it was time to cull the others. he then proceeded to become 2nd top bird (right underneath his dad)

I can't wait to hatch his chicks in March!
