Is there signs that a hen is ready to lay?

Why did my hen seem very interested in the coop and nest boxes and now shows no interest? I have 3 hens that have the red
combs but do not seem interested in laying any eggs. I have a J giant now how old does she have to be bfore she lays any eggs?

I believe they're similar to brahmas with how fast they mature. My brahma is a hatchery bird, she just laid her first at 25 weeks. Each bird is different. My dominique started later than average. My brahma may be a little early.

When should I start giving my girls a layer feed?  They are about 12 weeks old.
wait until they start showing signs of laying.
Squatting, complaining about the nest box. Putting bedding on their back. Comb and Wattles get more red.

then, begin to offer them crushed oyster shell. For my backyard flock, I'm using flock raiser that has been fermented.
My chickens are happy, happy,happy!

Feel her pelvic bone. If you can fit two fingers in the small spaces on the sides, she's close! Also red comb and squatting of course
I think this Monday sem strange but I have 6 pullets and I didn't know what squatting was until I realized that they do it when they come to me.they come running to me when I come out and when I bend down to pet them they squat and sing while I am petting them. But I have never seen one squat for any other reason???? They are 26weeks and 5 of the 6 are laying regularly but the 6th one hasnt laid a thing. Is m normal? The one that we suspect is a black star and her comb is short and lighter then the other 2 of that breed and they are laying consistent large eggs.I just wanna know if there is a chance that she won't lay because she is the low girl in the pecking order, they stop her from eating so lot and sleeping in a good spot???
