Fancy bantam breeds?!

Hi Leiya, it's fun to try different breeds, and then develop an interest in some of them. I started with Belgian d'uccles 20 years ago, and still love them. bantam Brahmas and bantam Cochins are also beautiful and very nice birds. I'm in Michigan, so my flock must be winter hardy; I avoid more heat loving birds. Rooster compatability is also a big issue to consider, unless you've got lots of separate pens. Mary
I know! My silked serama pullet is hardly bigger than a quail with a huge personality.
One of my porcelain d'uccle pullets cuddling with my silver duckwing cockerel.
They are an especially pretty feather legged variety because they are booted.
My Mille fleur rooster.
In addition to being very appeasing to the eyes, d'uccles are generally very sweet and calm. Hens go broody commonly and make good mothers. they are also decent layers.
Another very pretty breed are silver sebrights. I like the silver more than the gold because of the contrast in color.
My Sebright with a single comb
My rosecomb Sebright. The roosters are generally hen feathered, which I really like because they look so pretty that way. All my sebrights have really funny personalities. I've only ever had one mean Sebright and all the rest have been very sweet. They are pretty high energy and I noticed they are always "challenging" the standard size fowl I have. (I don't think they know they're so small lol) the downside to them is they aren't very good layers. The last Sebright hen I had laid a tiny pink egg 2 times a week.
