Is sweet PDZ considered a safe and organic chicken farming option?

That is a good idea. I will have to do that (inquire about feed sacks). I will have to take a few pictures of the coop when it's done completely, but here are some very basic shots. It's still unpainted. We wanted to add some trim pieces to the outside before painting and we're still working on that. we didn't do much in that heat wave we had.

Our girls are still small so we still have yet to put on nesting boxes. We didn't want them to think sleeping in there was wise. We will eventually cut a few holes in the side of the coop and then add an exterior box with a hinged lid. :)

Good job. It looks nice sitting right off your patio. I have my nesting boxes blocked off right now. My chickens are 13 weeks old. I don't plan on "revealing" the nesting boxes to them until it's just about time for them to start laying.

Thanks. :). Us either on the nesting boxes. We are going to put our boxes on the back side (opposite the patio). We wanted a bit more time so we could strategize the design for them. We built our coop without plans. We were just winging it off of a few nice looking ones I'd seen on byc and from a few books. We wanted to make sure to appropriately support them, and we just wanted to get the main coop done so the girls had somewhere to sleep that wasn't my daughter's tub. :). We will likely also cut another window hole on the front to help get airflow in the summer, and we'll put plexi glass in in the winter. I was really worried about designing something that our neighbors would be looking at from their deck. Thankfully they like it!!

have u called ne carpet n vinyl layers/stores? we bought a ruminate from one for $40. Also i was told not to use cedar chips for the chickens cuz it is toxic to them. ne one else every hear this?

We don't use cedar. We use pine shavings. I've heard those are fine. The lumber used on our coop is cedar though. :). I haven't called them, I only need a piece that is 4ft by 4 ft. The smallest I've found was a 9x6 ($29) at Lowes. I talked to Great Floors, and another flooring company. No luck. I think I'll check with Craigslist again, and look for a small piece or see if I can get feed sacks! I may just go back at get the vinyl from lowes in the mean time though. :)

Nice setup! Love your flock - do I see a Bielefelder? I set up my poop board yesterday, and the girls are a bit confused! I should have reset the timer on the light so that they had more of a chance to check it all out. It's nice to see that someone else's hen also likes to roost on the lip!
