5 day old ostrich chick

I'm down to one Ostrich chick left out of six. I guess I'll have to try and hatch out a couple more so my lone survivor does not have to grow up alone.

I spoke to the head of the Ratite TAG and she stated what I already suspected, that there are zero "pure" sub spieces of Ostrich in this country, they are all mixed.

People say red/black/blue but those are mostly industry trade names with their own characteristics to be sure, but not examples of pure blooded subspecies. So no real conservation value in keeping what people call "reds", only aesthetic value if you enjoy BIG ostrich (and mean ostrich, so they say).

Fading Ostrich Chick Syndrome is a bear, let me tell you....

This is why I can't justify to myself to pay too much for very young ratite chicks (of any kind).
