Hello, I'm new to BYC.....I just got a couple of Barred Rocks. Had them about four weeks, they're five weeks old. Just introduced them to the coop/run a few days ago. Poor ladies are having to get used to this Texas heat. BYC seems like a great site with tons of useful knowledge.

When evaluating data one should always consider the source and remember, no one wants to make illegal that which he wants to do.

Welcome to BYC!

This is the stuff that drives me crazy

This is the stuff that's getting to me lately

In the middle of my little mess

I forget how big I'm blessed

This is the stuff that gets under my skin

But I gotta trust you know exactly what you're doin'

It might not be what I would choose

But this is the stuff you use

welcome-byc.gifMake sure your young ladies have plenty of shade (real or manufactured),  lots of cool water(put ice in there) - youngsters can get heat stroke quickly especially if they aren't used to being outside.

Thanks for the warm welcome!

I built the coop and run under a large tree, so they get a lot of shade. Great idea with the ice, I will definitely do that!

Howdy from Kansas, mainspark, and welcome-byc.gif!  Great to have you aboard!  Heat is tougher thing on birds than cold, that's for sure.  You might also give frozen peas or watermelon.  Also, lots of shade!  I wet the ground down in the shade of the run so they can dig down into the cool dirt.  Good luck to you!
