You did the right thing

I agree...the problem with having our chickens as pets....we want to know what made them sick, but we dont want to cut them open to find out!

Whomever said that they were no longer naming birds hit the nail on the head! Thanks for the reminder! TerriO

Terribly sorry for your loss of your hen. I am currently in the same exact position...... my hen is just over a year old and never laid an egg that I am aware of. She comes from a background of "family" that had two internal layers. I had hoped she would be fine... but appears not to be the case. Yesterday I noticed her not acting herself. Gave her a bath, some scrambled eggs with vitamins and fruit- Today, much worse. Just sits there, kinda rolls onto her side. Eyes barely staying open. She won't eat, but did just drink some..... she does not look like she will make it through today.... I have her in the house, crated- since it is supposed to feel like 105 degrees here today. I feel helpless...... my birds are my pets as well and this little hen I hatched from my favorite hen and rooster. She has been hand raised with love and feel like I just can't do anything to help her now.....
