How about olive eggers? The olive colored eggs are unusual and kids love them. I have two F1 olive egger one year old's that I can retire early. I'm being swamped with olive egger eggs right now! LOL

A tangent thread:  My arrangements to purchase 10 welsummer POL pullets and a roo tomorrow JUST FELL THROUGH!!  After the supplier told me I could pick them up, today he tells me he doesn't have them.  Oh, I am pretty disappointed and I was counting on the eggs as I supply a number of folks their eating eggs.  My arrangements were made ten days ago and I really lost time with this news.

Does anyone have or know of a small laying flock that I could buy?  I did my homework when I chose the Welsummers and am now not sure what breed to go with but was counting on a dual purpose breed.  I have plans for BCMarans, and BBS Orpingtons already in the works, so not those.

I am willing to drive pretty much anywhere in Idaho to get my layers.  I am experienced in raising, have new coops, the flock(s) will be raised on pasture and the offspring will be raised organically... not certified.  I am not NPIP.

Anybody?  Thanks so much for a reply...

Beth from Harpster, Idaho

Edit:  I am planning on attending Chickenstock in Idaho Falls and will also be in So. Idaho end of April picking up new chicks... but I'd sure like to get some layers soon!!

Hi Beth! Have you tried searching on Craigs List using the key work chick, chickens, or hens? I'm a frequent browser and see laying hens for sale pretty frequently, but not Welsummers. I just saw today 4 barred rocks for sale located in Emmett on Craig's List and they are great brown egg layers!

Both for $10, very healthy, DE used, I am in Utah but would drive to Preston (Very southern Idaho) I do not know if that would help at all but the offer is there smile.png

Oh, how I wish I could "beam us up Scottie" so that I could take you up on this offer!  I figure that I am 10 hours away from Preston, Idaho.  I so so so appreciate this offer and knew that I would get at least moral support from everyone here at BYC.  Are you going to make it to RMC in Idaho Falls in May?  I'd like to say hi and thanks, Beth

Becca, today I have been scouring Craigslist and have come up with some leads in N. Idaho and Washington!  I may only have to drive 4-5 hours to get my new layers.  Not the breed(s) I was hoping for but that's life and something good will come of this I am pretty sure.  I think I am going to see some new country on the Palouse while trying to find these places.  Thanks so much!!
