My Crop Tube Feeding Journey With My Bird (Pics For Visuals- VERY detailed Post)

You can use aquarium air line. Be sure to melt the end with a lighter so it doesn't cut her.

Start by tubing warmed water at 8-14 ml per pound. Wait 60-90 minutes and repeat if crop has mostly cleared. Tube water one more time in 2 hours if crop has mostly cleared.

Lot of water *must* be tubed first!

OK thanks for your help.

We are having to force feed our chicken who just got attacked by ducks about a week ago. We have just been using a plastic eye dropper with the end cut off so we can get some chick starter, pro biotics, electrolytes, apple cider vinegar mixed with applesauce into her. Is it necessary to use a tube to get into the crop? Our bird has PTSD big time from the duck attack and prior to that her whole flock was killed by raccoons except her. She is blind as of now in 1 eye and the other is barely able to open. She's extremely lethargic and the 2 of us struggle to hold her just to get a few table spoons into her daily. Eggcessive suggested I check out this post because her poop is not the color it should be. My post if you would like more info is below. On a positive I don't think she has Coryza!
Chicken attacked by ducks and other chickens... swollen eyes or CORYZA?

Did you watch all of the videos here:
and

We have a sick hen here that has stopped eating and drinking. She started with wry neck, but has gotten worse and it may be mareks disease. The only way to get her to eat and drink earlier was to put our hand behind her head and tilt it forward. She usually has it upside down on her back. I am hoping we didn't cause her to get liquid down her trachea.

What kind of mix should I feed her? Do you tube feed supplements like Poultry Cell? Where do you find the supplies. Can you tube feed a chicken with severe wry neck? Also, I have not been able to find/feel her crop for awhile now.

We got the catheters at medical supply store and syringes online at Amazon. We used the baby bird food Exact and added supplements vitamin e, b and poultry cell. Consistency liquid enough to squeeze through catheter tube.

Easter weekend may be a problem finding open places.

How do you figure length out if you can't find/feel her crop?

I use 16" tubes and insert gently them until they hit the bottom of the crop, the back them out about 1/2". If you use aquarium air line be sure to melt the end that gets inserted because unmelted the edges might be too sharp and could cut the inside of the mouth, esophagus, or crop.

Where do you live?
