I have a 3 year old magpie who is recovering from bubble foot and wanted see other magpies, so please post pics of your magpies

You know, just today I was searching for a breed thread just for Magpie ducks. I found some threads with questions about them...but no threads just for Magpie ducks.

I have a trio. Two quackers and a drake. I am trying to socialize them...not working as well as planned. They're still too frightened, despite daily, gentle handling since they hatched. I mean, they are gems if I am actively holding them. They relax and fall asleep. But they don't want to be picked up without freaking out!

Anyway, here they are! These pictures were actually taken today. They're panting a bit in these pictures, because it is very hot out. Today is the first day they've been let out of their temporary/introduction cage.

Enjoying the green, green grass! They loved picking at the yellow flowers.

My pekin female led them to the pond...which is sadly dried up for the summer. It fills with spring melt, then slowly empties. It has always been temporary.

They are losing their yellow baby fluff and turning white!

In the shade of a small tree.

They're not used to this heat, nor am I.

Wow, they are beautiful! Looking at those pictures took me back to when my magpie was duckling. She got used to the hot Texas weather quick and didnt seem to like the one day a year we get snow. Unfortunately, this hasn't been her year. Around March she ate some slugs which didn't agree with her stomach and weakened her legs for a couple of weeks. She finally healed and walked with joy all over the yard foraging until early June when I was given 7 new ducklings. She started sleeping behind her nest area as the ducklings invaded the nest. She was sleeping between two bricks that were placed to prevent squirrels from getting into the pen from my neighbors side of the fence. I didnt notice until I saw her limping and saw she had developed bubble foot. She has improved and is walking for longer periods of time now. Her rehab in a water filled been has been doing miracles both times she's been sick. I was also looking for a thread about magpies and only found an old thread

For some reason it didn't upload the pictures from my phone but I will upload them tomorrow from my computer.

I hope your little girl's bumble foot gets better! I bet she is a very pretty Magpie lady!

I am already quite fond of my ducklings. I think next year I will add some new blood, maybe some blues. If the breed is a critically endangered breed, every person working with them matters! My only other duck is a single pekin female (named "Old Faithful" since she lays an egg every single day!), so no worries about interbreeding, other than her eggs being pekin x magpie. But I know her egg and laying habit quite well, so I can keep those from being incubated.

The top picture is of my Magpie and Buff duck when they were about 8 months old and the bottom picture is the most recent of the Magpie doing her rehab on her legs.........She wasn't too happy I was taking a picture of her.

They are some of the best ducks specially with their personality. It's been difficult to find them, some hatcheries have removed them from sale as well. I have been trying to find a Magpie drake in texas for 2 years with no luck.

Do you have access to an incubator? Incubating a set of hatching eggs is probably the best route to getting a drake (and a few more females).

I do, but I want pure magpie. I have a swedish, buff, and mallard drakes with the magpie being the only hen. I got 7 assorted ducklings: 2 buffs, 1 blue swedish, 1 cayuga, 1 mallard, 1 black indian runner and a pekin. Without a magpie drake I might have to wait for the pekin to grow and mate with my magpie hen to see if it gives any ducklings close to having magpie markings.
