The Svart Hona (Swedish Black Hen) Thread!

Thank you! :love

We found him in the "rooster pen" at the co-op, where people drop off roosters they don't want any more. He was $10, and they had no idea about his lineage. But, he was so beautiful, and we needed a rooster for our hens, so we just couldn't resist!

He definitely has leakage in his feathers. I'm not sure if it's red or white--it looks brown in hue, but I don't know the technical term for the color. His waddle and comb are mulberry colored. They also seem a lot smaller, and--in the case of the comb--rounder than true Svart Honas.
My husband thinks he might be a cross with an Easter-Egger or Ameraucana, but I don't know if there's other breeds with the beards and feathered feet that it might be crossed with?

Though we've kept chickens for three years now, I've never really become very familiar with chicken breed types..😅
How big is he? There’s a few different breeds he could be crossed him, or he could be a mix of mixes. While I would classify his leakage as “silver” he does appear to be split for both the silver and gold gene, giving him that off-white sort of leakage.

He's definitely on the small size. He's a lot smaller than our Rhode Island Red, New Hampshire Red, and Black Sex-Link Hens. He might be about the same size as our (non-bantam) Ameraucana/Easter Egger hen. We didn't weigh him, and we've got him quarantined away from our other chickens so I don't have good comparisons to go on, but he's less than half the size of a Rhode Island Red Rooster.

It’s possible he’s a d’uccle cross, though it’s hard to know for sure.

Hello all, I am looking to find A Svart Hona Breeder in West Texas and so far have not had any luck. I have a mature rooster and am in some need of hens or chicks to raise up. I would be interested in fertile eggs once it cools down some. Thank you in advance.
