Can someone please explain the growing process of the ostrich for me? Pictures not necessary, though I'd love to see them!

seriously?

they start out as a fertilized egg. It develops with proper temperature and humidity.. if nothing goes wrong it hatches. the baby eats, drinks and grows up...

pretty much like any other bird.

So unless you meant something else that should answer what you had asked.
If it doesn't answer it .. then perhaps rephrase your question so it makes a bit more easier to give you the info you need.

I want to know is their size, weight, and appearance at different stages.

http://www.nzfarmstays.com/candle.html has egg candling pics.

Other than that the best thing you can do is check out the ostrich pics here of the babies and juveniles. I don't know of a book or a link that has the entire amount of info you are asking for. HOWEVER you can google search for info on "Ostrich chicks" Ostrich juveniles" and "Adult Ostrich" then compile info from there.... (You will probably find a lot of links which lead you right back to this forum though).

I seriously doubt anyone has kept records of weight at different stages (or at least haven't published it online) ; so that COULD be a project one of the ostrich owners here could try. But as the birds get large it would be harder for them to keep accurate weights and measures cause frankly not many of us are equipped with livestock scales. If I may ask.. why do you need this info? Curiosity or are you working on a paper of some sort?
