Hen with infected vent?

Kathy, I am not trying to debate you., though you seem to think I am. I was merely using general terms about the way I used Safeguard in past years. I used more on a larger bird, such as my late 14 lb rooster. The point is that I never had a worm issue so whatever I used was working just fine, when on those very rare occasions, I did decide to worm.

Dawg53 knows a lot about worming, not taking anything away from Jim, who I consider a friend. So does Pine Grove, who has raised birds for well over 50 years. He recommends Valbazen as the best all round wormer, getting every worm known to infest a chicken. I take anything he says to the bank as he's forgotten more than most people have ever learned in the first place and still knows more than they do. My point in saying this is that there are differing viewpoints on wormers. I'm not a big user of wormers for my flock, period. The only reason I don't use Valbazen myself is that we are on a very limited Air Force pension and cannot afford it. I must use what I can afford to use and manage my flock in the K.I.S.S. methods that have worked well for us for the entire time we've owned chickens. Safeguard is a great wormer, no doubt. It also has anti-coccidial properties as well. Learned that from a goat person.
