Chickens won't eat grower crumbles- Please Help.

Gosh,

Thank you guys, that's what I thought as well. I usually have total confidence in my local feed store...I wonder what happened in this case? I will buy grower ASAP. I might take the afore mentioned advice, and freeze the layer until I need it. Anyway I'm glad that I didn't proceed with the layer for to long before asking.

Thanks again for all of your help.

I see this was two years ago but I'm new to chickens starting in October and am finding much helpful info here. I too went to the local feed store, the chick starter bag was almost gone, the chicks were eight weeks old. She told me to go right to the layer mash. Now they are 14.5 weeks old and I just read about the too much calcium issue! So, I bought a bag of grower crumbles and the poor girls seem to be on a hunger strike. Will they start eating it when they are hungry enough? I hated the mash...SO MUCH WASTED FEED!! But I really don't want tontorture them either...

Yes they will eat the grower when they get hungry just cut out any snacks or free ranging till they switch over. The only thing I would check is for mold on the grower. chickens don't like change and the older they get the more they will resist but they will change, and your not torturing them they are just complaining. They'll get over it. I've never seen a chicken starve to death with food available It just isn't what they want but will be fine.
