The Rock fancier/lovers thread.

There is just something about a Plymouth Rock. As many of you folks may already know, I am passionate about Rocks. I just cannot imagine this farmstead without them. My experience is limited to White Rocks and Barred Rocks, but breeders of Rocks, all varieties are welcome to share in this social and educational thread. Breeding top quality Plymouth Rocks is challenging and rewarding, if you really love the breed. This thread should be a place where fellow Rock breeders can meet and share their stories and photos of these special birds and make a few friends along the way.

Welcome fellow Rock heads.

He's not purebred. I'd not use him in any breeding program. Here's the grand sires of some of our birds. This might give you something to study and compare what a quality, bred to the Standard Barred Rock should be. Welcome to the thread. Hopefully this thread will whet your appetite for high quality birds. Again, welcome.

hes got solid feathers and hes alot darker. His come has more points
That is correct. The reason he shows these faults is that he isn't a Barred Rock. He has some Barred Rock in his past, but he is a mix. Quite likely he is a Black Sex Link male or just a mix of BR and some other bird. He has leakage of gold and red, his barring shows he only has one barring gene, while a true bred Barred Rock male has 2 barring genes. His comb is not good, as you said. His tail shows color inappropriate for the breed.

Where did you get him?

Wicked Chicken Chicken Auction.
I also got what was supposed to be a rock hen but was a dominique
another hen which turned out to be a roo
and 4 pullets all of which died within 4 months
