quiet chickens

Just saw this thread. Also looking at australorps. My city allows 3 backyard chickens but one neighbor already complained that he thinks chickens are noisy and messy and we don have one yet. He does have happy dogs. The coop would be by the other neighbor. I know they are not quiet but how do they compare to yapping dogs with their egg song? Louder or quieter? If they are louder than a dog bark we may have to rethink getting them.

Glad to have you

I have silkie chickens because I heard they were quiet. And I think they are for the most part. They squawk a little when laying eggs or when they hear me coming to feed them or give them treats but otherwise they are pretty quiet I think.

We have a sicllian buttercup, a bantam easter egger and 3 cochins, and i'd say out of my small flock that the cochins make almost no noise at all though one of the larger ones yells very loud...
it all really depends i guess.

I have a LF Sussex and EE, plus bantam d'uccles, Pyncheon, Dutch, and d'anver. The EEs and Dutch are by far the loudest, and I'd say D'uccles are the quietest. Thy are great birds to boot. Id recommend them to anyone.
