Hi my white turkey hen started laying under a week ago ...we want let her hatch a clutch but if we where to take a few off her (out of her nest ) would she lay more to replace the onea we took or would she only go down on the remaining one (she hasnt started sitting one them yet ...she is upto 10 eggs does anyone know how many they lay in a clutch and/or how many they can lay a year?
Thankyou

All depends on the hen. Some are great layers and others not as much but normal clutches number up to 15 eggs. If you take the eggs as she lays, it's normal for hens to keep laying to replace the "missing" ones. I would think if you took some then left her alone, she would continue to lay until she is satisfied with the clutch.

(Unless she never gets broody, then she may just keep laying like our hen. lol She does nothing BUT lay eggs. She has laid nearly 50 eggs this year so far. Our third clutch is due to hatch (incubator) next week and she still has eggs in her nest.)

Yes i have a tom with her so she should be fertile .....at the moment shes laying one a day sometimes skipping a day
We arr really looking forward to getting some babies from the eggs and we dont have an incubator so i hope she does sit on them
Also how long is the incubation period?
Thanks for replying

That's completely normal (skipping a day). Our does that often and will actually sometimes lay two eggs in one day then to make up for the skipped day. If you don't have an incubator and don't plan on getting one, then I would let her go and see what she does. If her nest is in a quiet spot, there is a good chance she may sit on them. Incubation period for turkeys is 28 days.
