Peachicks Not Eating

As for the protein, she can probably handle it at this age. She is young and growing. Once she becomes an adult, she will most likely need less, but for now, it's probably ok. When she has had enough protein, she may start rejecting the eggs.

This topic comes up at least a couple of times a year. 99% of the time it is just over worrying. We have hatched hundreds of peachicks and we have never lost one because it failed to start eating regular crumbles. I have never shown the first one how or what to eat. Unless the chick is obviously sick I recommend putting it in the brooder box with food and water and leaving it alone. Let nature work. I would worry way more about the stress of trying to make them eat. Peafowl just don't attack food like other birds. They mostly eat as chicks before you wake up. If they were normal babies they still have digestive systems flooded with yolk even at four or more days. If they are taking water they are fine.

We don't have a bunch of experience with hens hatching chicks but I have never seen a hen feed her young. All peachicks will strike the beak of the other chicks. I honestly don't know if this is to take food, hack off the unnatural egg tooth or just a game.
Old old old.
So glad I found it. Very very reassuring for me, i have my first pea chicks. 5 days old. Expecting them to gobble constantly like chicken chicks. Whew!
They are active, peeping perching. They do really want to eat food off of my lovely sparkly pink finger nail. and really love to peck my Amber ring. Glad to know they may just enjoy the attention??

Good deal!! Keep all this up every day and keep us posted as you see changes in her. I will be anxiously awaiting all the good news! :)

As for the mice, they are a pain. See if you can figure out where they are getting in and block it off. I invented a mouse trap system you can keep inside your coop but the birds cant get access and stay safe. If you are interested, I can send pics.

I hope she is better in the morning, let us know!! :)

Mice in the hen house. I had this problem so I went to a farm supply house [Orscheln's] and bought a rectangular metal trap $10. It has a snappable lid and spring-loaded ramps on two ends. I put some peanut butter on a paper towel inside. The next day I had 10 mice, then 6, then none. Rule of thumb, you see one you have 10.
