I have been reading on predators for some time now..have delt with Opossun..Hawks.. squirrels...and now the FOX.....RED to be exact....in one night I had 12.... 6 month old L. Orpington snatched right out of a dog kennel..... not 45 feet from my open screen door....All the articles I've read and people I've talked to all say not one varment takes more than 1 maybe 2 a night...I am here to tell you that they took 12 from one little crawl space.....unbeleivable.....needless to say the Fox was back the next night

So never underestimate them..............................

Thanks I'm allmost over the shock..the fox was captured the very next night and relocated across 2 rivers and many many miles away.

I have to disagree with the relocating. He now maybe another chicken keepers problem.

A fox will kill many, bury for later dining.

NEVER relocate... all that does is dump your problem (and now trap wise) predator onto someone else!

From what I read there are several different sub species of Fox here in California. All but the red fox that was introduced in California is on the endangered / threatened species list. If a non-native red fox is trapped, the DFG will dispatch it, All others are relocated.

But I seriously doubt that they relocate it to someone's private property!.. If they did.. and that fox killed someone's pets or livestock DFG would be held responsible for the losses...

What I am saying is that I as a livestock owner do not want someone to drop off a trap savey known poultry killer onto my property.. and I doubt many of the other poultry owners on this board would appreciate dealing with someone elses problem predator.. we have enough of our own without taking on someone elses too!
