Daily Duck Egg Report

Those are girls. You will hear a big difference in them if one is a boy. Some ducks take longer to lay than others but 5 months is in the normal range. A male will have a curl in their tail as well. Size isn't really an indicator nor is color for fawn and whites.

Hi, I seperated them for 3 days---& got an egg from each; they r both hens!! YA! Now I will look for a drake! U were right on the sexes. Why do u think it took the one hen so long to start laying? They r both 9 mons old & the other hen has been laying eggs for 5 months.

Hi, I separated my ducks & found out I have 2 hens! YA! But also Boo! Because I wanted to hatch their eggs! Does anyone know where I can buy a drake, Indian Runner? I live in Idaho! I am looking locally & online, any suggestions? Thank you!
Congrats Amanda Virus on ur egg, r u going to hatch it, or did u already?
Nah, I have all girls. I've been on the lookout for an Ancona drake for months!

I have been looking online at the Ancona duck & the Magpie, they are beautiful ducks & would fair well on our property. Do they fly? I didn't see this info anywhere! If I got an Indian runner drake, would he mate w/the Ancona or magpie?

They don't fly, they weigh about 6 lbs so it's funny to see them try! Ducks don't discriminate with breeds, they'll mate with anything!

Hi! So this is my first time incubating eggs... The first egg was supposed to hatch on the 28th. But it didnt. But now when I look at it the shell appears to be getting darker. What is that all about? When I candled it this is what it looked like

Is there any way it could still hatch? Thank you so much!

I have 7 ducks and one drake. He has yet to discover his true self.

2 of the females are older and lay almost every day. The KC has laid every day quite religiously.

The younger have not found their rhythm yet. At least two are laying sporadically. All these are laid in the duck house before I let them out in the morning. Twice this last week I have gone out to the duck yard and found two eggs but neither one has a hard shell just the membrane. There is always oyster shell available and they are eating layer feed. The membrane eggs hold together quite well. I inspected the first two. One was a 2 yolker (which I have been getting a lot of recently) and the other was just an ordinary egg.

2 questions:

Is this typical for younger ducks? I did read that hot weather can cause this problem. It has been in the 90Fs but that is really hot, hot for this area.

Are the eggs okay to eat?
