Cat With Bloody Patches Of Hairless Skin! Disease or Injury? **GRAPHIC PICS**

Hello I noticed my cat has this red hairless patch (skin looks a bit raw). after I bathed her clump of fur came off (a circular patch). Can you let me know if your cat nemo ended up having ringworm or hotspot? very worried as I've never seen this. thanks
!

Hello and
welcome-byc.gif

This thread's old, but here were the conclusions in regard to the original posters' cat:

The vet said Feline Dermatitis and that in some cats, it can be an annual thing (Yay!?). She gave him a shot, some mite medicine (just in case, though she didn't seem to think that was it), and some cream to put on, and said that if it doesn't go away in two weeks, call.

Well, the cream and shots didn't work.
The vet said that if they didn't, it was probably food allergies, so he's on a diet of rice, tuna, eggs, and whatever cat-appropriate leftovers we have. And, it worked! He's almost completely healed with no signs of new sores yet. Praying this works permanently.

They were just a few posts up from yours. ;)

Best wishes.

Checkys, it ended up being food allergies. So long as he doesn't eat dry cat food he's fine. The only problem is, he'll only eat dry cat food

So that's the new challenge. Feeding him.

The only food my cat can eat because he has food allergies to complex proteins, is "Natural Balance Limited ingredient" dry cat food. Both my cats like it. It comes in chicken, salmon and duck.

I am so very sorry about your cat, i would take her to the vet, i so not think they are hot spots, my dog Esa had a hotspot and it did not look like that. It may be an ich? my boy dog max had an ich on his tail and chewed it, it was bloody and ripped out all his fur. My cat Chloe has tiny bloody scabbed up dots all over her skin, i was hoping if you knew what i could be.

Hi guys, I know this is old so not sure anyone will read. The graphic pic is the only similar one I could find to my cats ongoing skin issue-everything else I have seen or read doesn't fit the description quite like the person who started this thread. It has been going on for a few year; the location is the back side of his neck or far top of back where neck starts. He gets those sores in about the same spot all the time. At first it would heal up for a bit until a new one came but now it's like there is always one open and raw- it is flat, red and some blood, sometimes crusted over , no hair on the sore spot. She can't reach that far back to lick so not licking it although she is a big groomer. No cat fights. Has been outdoor in the past but not right now--she'd get Advantage if she'd go out (no fleas on her) . She has lived with foster cats. And one of my cat I adopted from Peru a few yrs ago but he doesn't have this problem. I have taken her to the vet two times, 2 diff vets--neither provided any info or explanation or treatment.. I have been wiping it down and putting antibiotic cream on her but that clearly is not resolving the problem. Last night I went out and bought neem oil . Going to dilute it and put a tiny bit on with cotton ball. But now read about the proteins --she eats Natural balance but not limited ingredient one. Plus wet food (tuna crab mix) and freeze dried chicken treats (she is obsessed with.) I was so curious about the BPL and how neem and rosemary helped her cat. I actually put a bit of Neem oil on my lips but I do NOT recommend, the smell is horrific. I am so excited to see if the oil and change of diet help. Paying more to a vet and the trauma for her of having to get in car--well would rather save the time and $ if this works. Thanks for sharing!

This is so old and I also am curious about the whole BPL thing, my cat has the same exact thing happening to him, he has a sore on his home leg that's bald and super red and gets better then comes back and has been happening for a year!!! He occasionally seems to do this weird meow when he licks it and I was told change his diet which I did and maybe hotspots and I tried that and nothing has worked!!!! Also, prior to all this happening he would catch sooo many birds and hasn't since, which is pretty weird but yaa..
