Hi all,
I was hoping you could help me out with this one... my husband bought me two new chickens for my birthday (some girls like flowers... some love their hens). However, I have no idea what breed my one bird is. I called the farm which he got her from and she told us she is a Black Sex-Link, however every picture I have looked at looks nothing like her (and I am fairly new to chickens, as I have only had ducks in the past). Also, since the 2 new additions to our yard, we have been getting blue eggs. We have Indiand runners who COULD be laying the eggs, however the runners had not been laying lately and the blue egg is usually in the same nest as our other chickens egg (brown - small). The lady told us the other chicken was a cornish hen.
If anyone knows with my new beautiful bird is, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks

That is also my new "cornish hen" in the back. If anyone wants to confirm that is what she actually is, I would appreciate that as well!

Looks like an Easter Egger. Easter Eggers (often abbreviated EE's) are crossbred chickens that lay blue, green, or pink eggs. They're generally docile, go broody somewhat often, and can be almost any color. Many hatcheries sell "Ameraucanas" as Easter Eggers, but the Ameraucana is a pure-breed with set color varieties.

Your Cornish does appear to be a Cornish, with the variety being White-Laced Red.

She looks like an Easter Egger to me, which is a mix of Ameraucanas or Araucanas and other breeds. They are often called "Americanas" or "Araucanas/Ameraucanas", but are actually Easter Eggers, not pure breeds. And yes, your Cornish is a Cornish, probably the White Laced Red variety.

Excellent! Thank you :)... I had looked into Easter Egger but didn't want to jump to any conclusions as she had told me something different. Do you know how often an Easter Egger lays?

My easter Eggers lay fairly often. I have 5 hens and 4 pullets and the hens lay between4-5 eggs a week each and the pullets are just learning to lay. I even have been getting a jumbo egg consistently from one. :)

My Easter Egger lays about 5-6 times a week in the summer, and slows down to maybe 3-4 a week in the winter. She's my second best layer, after my Columbian Wyandotte.

Easter Eggers, at least in my experience, are great layers. They usually lay 5-6 eggs a week in the summer/spring, and 4-5 in the winter. Their eggs are large, and of course, are beautifully colored.

Thank you everyone. It's nice to know what she is finally. I had a hunch but I'm glad to have some reassurance! I look forward to my blue eggs
