has anyone seen this before? this is pepper, she lives on our refuge in portugal,to cut a long story short,i saw her in a pretty awful petstore a couple of weeks before this first photo was taken, i couldnt leave her there so i brought her, honestly, i didnt expect her to live but 6 months on shes still here and doing fine, eats, drinks, gets around no problem, shes a really sweet chicken, i dont know anything about chickens ended up with some purely by accident and loved them ever since. i just wondered if anyone else ever experienced this? she can turn her head a full 360 degrees, its amazing! the other photo is her now, she has a happy peaceful life or i wouldnt have let her continue,im just curious! thankyou!

Oh my goodness! you are an angel for rescuing her! She is so cute. Sorry, I have no answer, but she sure is cute!

she may have a severe wry neck but, if she is getting around well, eating & drinking and being a chicken - she'll do fine. Maybe she has a dislocation somewhere, although wry neck can also be caused by nutritional deficiency. You could try some Polyvisol infant drops (NO IRON) available over the counter in Walmart, drug stores etc. You could give her 3 drops 3 X a day by putting it on something she will readily eat - or directly in her mouth. A few drops squeezed from a vit.E capsule are also good.

If it is wry neck, some cases respond well to prednisone from the vet.

I am not sure... When I incubated chicks one of them got shrink wrapped. It was fighting to get out for 30 hours, and slowly loosing energy. We didn't think she would survive, but she did! She is now around 2 months old, and living very happily! Her neck is very wonky, but she is fine, and such a lovely chicken. How is your chicken? Is she still alive?
