wormguard plus

I rescued a few chickens in July and was suspicious that they were not laying. I took a fecal sample to the vet and found they did have just a small amount of eggs. I started the basics of acv and garlic, pumpkin seeds - threw a few drop of oxine in the water. Yesterday I went out to the coop and saw what looks like rice noodles on a pile of poo. I have never dewormed and a have a hard time even touching these birds because they are soooo fearful. I found this stuff that is organic called "wormguard plus" made of diatamacious earth, flax, and grapefruit seed extract. Other threads said its just preventative but it says on the website it is a "broad spectrum dewormer". Wouldnt that mean it takes care of worms already there?

I talked to a few local people that have had chickens for years and none of them ever deworm. The local feed mill has never heard of it... Am I crazy? Included some pics. The suspect chicken has a pale comb and was born last Jan supposidly. Really not interested in valbazen or wazine unless they are my only options. I'm new to this but have had a really rough few months with loosing birds so I've experienced my fair share. Sour crop, pendulum crop, fox attacks, Merricks, mites...

Looks like roundworms to me, and lots of them! If you have been using the "wormguard plus" you can see that it doesn't work. If you want your chickien to live, get some Valbazen or Safeguard before it's too late.

While you're at it, it's probably a good idea to treat for lice and mites, too, but with a proper poultry dust or 5% Sevin powder.

I've never heard of it, I just had the same problem worms. My hen stopped laying wasn't eating and sleeping a lot. So i used safeguard paste a pea sized dollop in their mouth and it has worked wonders. Shes perky again and eating again. She hasn't laid again yet but those worms are viscous. I would try a wormer like wazine, safeguard etc. You can find it at your local feed store.

Remember that Wazine only works on roundworms.

So those are roundworms. OK, at least I know that. I haven't tried anything yet except for acv, pumpkin seeds etc. I am in the info gathering stage. I'll look into safeguard. I already did the sevin stuff a few months ago. Probably part of the reason my birds are so terrified of me.

I see safeguard is for livestock. How do you know how much to use? How many days? Can you eat the eggs?

I personally used safeguard... I've feed them pumpkin seed , garlic, and ACV everytime the water is changed and mine still got the worms. Its been very wet here lately. Safeguard worked wonders for me

I seriously doubt that. You should see the stuff I do to some of mine, lol... Some birds are just flightier than others.

The stuff sold online and at stores is labeled for livestock, but it *is* used "off label" in poultry. I give 50mg/kg (.5ml per 2.2 pounds) by mouth and you can do this with the paste or the liquid, it's exactly the same amount. Repeat in ten days.

Some paste info from left to right:
Small = 10mg ( .1cc) = enough for a 200 gram (7 ounce) bird at 50mg/kg
Medium = 25mg (.25cc) = enough for a 500 gram (17 ounce) bird at 50mg/kg
Large = 50mg ( .5cc) = enough for a 1000 gram (35 ounce) bird at 50mg/kg
50 mg/kg is what my vets recommended.
