DFW Texas: 8 roosters need to go ASAP - cream legbar, Mille fleur leghorn, marans

We need to rehome our roosters immediately. A predator has killed over 20 of our hens over 3 separate attacks and we give up.

I need them gone by the end of the month but sooner is better so they don't get killed too.

2 crested cream legbars
1 Mille fluer leghorn
1 frizzle Cochin
2 blue copper marans
2 olive eggers

Probably not - seeing as how I would not even be able to do that until the weekend because I have a job and family, and my mother in law is coming in this Friday.

Look, they're nice roosters, and they'd make great pets, but at this point we have invested literally hundreds of hours into trying to keep them safe, and hundreds if not thousands of dollars into housing for our birds, and after 6 months we lost every single hen (over 40) we bought, plus 2 from our original flock of 4. I am emotionally exhausted. I cannot imagine the idea of putting roosters in my car and driving 2 hours to give them to someone, when at this point I could just go butcher them myself and be done with this whole stupid idea. The rest of them died anyway so what is the **** point?

If someone actually in DFW wants a few nice free roosters, send me an email before Thursday, otherwise they're gone anyway. I can't keep feeding them and caring for them because every time I have to go look at the **** empty coop where my hens were and it's torture.

Hi, I'm a neighbor about 20 miles north, in Cannon.

My first chicken purchase, assured by the local feed and seed (now out of business, go figure) were 100% roos. I was told by a misinformed friend that I had to get rid of them, they'd be violent, etc. Because we are soft hearted folks, butchering was not an option.

I asked at the Ag Mart there on 380 (next to the pool hall, north side of the road, just west of McDonald), and one of the Mexican fellows in back had a friend who ran cattle. The roosters went there where they probably eventually wound up being stew but in the meantime, they are great at cleaning up ruminant poo. Since then, I have four roosters, and two do not get along with anyone else, so they run with the horses, goats and donkeys. Our fly population was almost nothing this past summer, and I credit the roos.

Anyway, the guys at the Ag Mart might be helpful.

I'm assuming you may also have chicken gear you may wish to be rid of--email me if that's the case, I may be able to take some or all of it off your hands.

Good luck--and please accept my sympathy for the loss of your hens. I have cried over mine as well, though no unknown predators, they do die. It is sad indeed.

Thanks for the replies - I would love to keep the roosters if we thought we could keep them safe. We cannot have them at our house because of the laws so they are at a leased property right now and I cannot do anything more than I have done to secure it. The neighbors have had the same problems and have spent a lot of $ to keep theirs secure, and they're at their homes at night so I doubt we can do anything more.


I found a home for 4 of them with someone who shows their birds, so what is left are the Mille Fluer Leghorn, the Frizzle Cochin, and the two OE Maran Mixes.

The frizzle is so friendly he lets my two year old son pick him up.

I have them listed on CL too for $5-10 but for BYC members they're free. My MIL is still in town so the best I can do is meet you at the property or our house in McKinney.

Frizzle is in the front, the Mille Fluer is the brown/white/black one, and the two black copper OE maran mixes are in the back. The other 4 are taken.

Kudos to you for working so hard at placing them. As an animal lover, I always want to take in the unwanted. But I suspect that with four roosters, and two that only get along with each other, if they came here, they'd wind up in continual conflict.
