This is Suzi on the right hand side of the picture on her way to me and Spikkels- she is a real mother and steals all the babies. I can add as many chicks as I wish from the incubator and she do not mind at all. I can do it openly and during the daytime-she accepts any chick. Poor Suzi ends up at night without any chick under her and Spikkels will try to cover all 25 chicks by herself. I usually re arrange the situation to let each have a fair share of chicks

Lemon, the red hen, is a sex link. She's a good girl - not too good at brooding eggs since she switches nests but very accepting of chicks when you give them to her - I gave her all thirteen in the middle of the day. She had, in that picture, three naked necks, two dark brahmas, three mottled houdans, one california white, two sex links, and two barred rocks.

Penny, the bottom bird, is a buff orp and is excellent at hatching her own chicks, but she doesn't accept chicks you give to her. She just abandons them. In that picture she has three purebred buff orp chicks and two EE chicks.

We got a rooster about three months ago and two months ago, one of our hens went broody. Hatched 5 of 6 eggs.
