If so what inch of hardware cloth would you need for them not to get through?

I don't think they do :)

We have plenty of those animals where I live and we have no trouble.

In my experience, those are all herbivores, so you should have no problem. I have read posts on here where people have said that groundhogs have gotten their chickens (or maybe it was chicks), but I've never had that happen here. Groundhogs will, however, ruin the foundations of your buildings.

Chickens off and on for 25+ years and still learning.

Moles are fine.  Groundhogs will be happy to eat their feed and undermine building foundations.

I get rid of them, because they eat up my yard.I don't plant for critters. It was a groundhog that inspired me to buy my trap.Sure glad I did.

1/4 inch galvanized hardware cloth will keep out mice.
