Spaulding vs. Indian Crests

Nice looking birds Zaz. Thanks for sharing these photos. Hope not to offend anyone about my opinions on the Greens. Perhaps I sound too much like "Your baby is ugly." Sure didn't mean to insult anyone. I will concede/agree that the Java's green color and their long legs, stature and posture are really attractive. I just can't past that Java head shape and "pointy" vertical crest. As for your whites, Zaz, the first thing I saw and admired is the shape of... <wait for it> ...their heads! Trains are nice but I'm a head man. I admire heads!

I don't think you are offensive at all. I definitely understand. I personally say sometimes that I just really don't like peaches, cameos, opals, charcoals, etc. With me I always saw peafowl as being very colorful and unique looking compared to most birds. That is part of the reason I got into raising peafowl because I really loved their colors. The ones that are mainly a solid pale color are not very attractive to me. There just isn't enough shine and color although the whites are an exception but sometimes I get frustrated with the whites because they show dirt really easily.

The good news about me not liking a lot of the varieties is that I won't have to worry about wanting a ton of varieties. Now I probably will have to deal with wanting a lot of just one variety.

I also agree with Minx. We all have our opinions. My problem is I love even the "pale" peafowl...so I want them all! Each trip to a peafowl breeder gets me liking a new color.

Back on topic with crests, isn't the crest condition representative of a peafowl's health?

Thanks Dany12. I was just thinking it is because my peahen that free ranges with her peachicks has an awful crest and seems quite sick. Given her all sorts of medicine and that is not helping. She cannot even finish her molt.

I am not sure about the IB vs BS. I would think BS is darker overall, but I have not had both at one time to compare the two.

Haha Blue Creek maybe you will become one of the new large peafowl breeders. Josh was telling me how when you think about it there really aren't that many large peafowl breeders.

I am sure the crest shows if the bird is healthy or not. I also think it can be nicer looking with age. Alto's crest is more colorful and larger than Peep's crest and Alto is of course the older peacock.
If a bird has had their crest picked a lot then the crest wouldn't be a great indicator of health. If their crest is picked on enough it might not grow back so well.

I hope your peahen gets better! Has she been eating and drinking?

We shall see MinxFox. Don't want to get too many birds because I want them friendly and give them all the attention they need. My peahen eats and drinks. Gave her some vitamins in one of the waterers she mainly uses. She is now down to two babies and it seems like it is easier on her.
