I have a 3 month old hen that is sneezing. Its like a sneeze that wont go away, sometime she sneezes 8 times in a row. After she gets done with her sneeze fit she will then breath with her beak open. What should I do?q

Are there any other symptoms like coughing, gurgling, or swelling of the face? Dusty bedding/dusty feed and high ammonia are two things that can cause sneezing. It could also be a mild respiratory disease. To be safe, you may want to isolate her from the other birds, just in case she has a respiratory disease. Give her some electrolytes and probiotics to help strengthen her immune system.

Thanks! No other birds are doing it, she is in a big dog cage at night with grass under them. The cage also gets moved about every other day. Im trying to get them close to moving in the coop. She is also still eating baby food with anti. still in there. I will use your suggestion and post if anything else happens. Thanks for your help!

There are some viruses and bacterial respiratory infections that can cause sneezing such as infectious bronchitis and mycoplasma. IB is a virus. If she develops more symptoms such as nasal or eye drainage, swelling of the eye or face, I would treat with Tylan or Terramycin in the water. Here is a list of diseases and symptoms: http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/ps044

It's possible she may have somehow inhaled feed dust, maybe a feed crumble or small granule, perhaps causing a blockage. This would cause open mouth breathing. You can use a syringe or eyedropperful of warm saline solution and liberally flush directly into her nostrils. The warm saline flush will breakdown or help dissolve the debris, the saline should open her sinusus up. If it was a respiratory disease, other birds would be showing symptoms also.

Thank you so much for that chart. Well to update my chick is now very lame.. When she is breathing she is gasping for air with her beak open. Nothing else I can see is wrong with her. No water from the eyes, swollen anything, Nothing. She has gotten to the point where she will not eat or drink or fight for her spot in rankings with the other chickens. How common is Infectious Bronchitis and MS. How common or fast would it spread to the whole flock. She has been with the flock till 2 days ago. No one else has it. She has also been sneezing around them before she was seprated, no one has anything.

Now this may be a dumb question but here we go. Should I get the sav-a-chick probiotics and the electrolyto & vitamine packs or should I get something else?

IB, MG, and MS are fairly common. With her being lame now, it could be MS. You can contact the state poultry vet to ask questions and perhaps get her tested by an NPIP tester to know what you are dealing with. Another option is to ask them if they can do a necropsy on her if she dies or is culled. Here is some info: http://agr.wa.gov/FoodAnimal/AnimalHealth/statevets.aspx Also look at this link: http://www.aphis.usda.gov/animal_health/animal_dis_spec/poultry/downloads/labs_app.pdf
