Nova Scotia, Canada. Any other East Coasters??

Hi! I'm not from Nova Scotia (I'm not even from Canada!) but I'm planning to visit next year. As a Gaelic-speaking Australian, I really want to see where all my (text)books come from... I feel like I know the place because I read about it so much.

Good luck with finding people!

Wow! What a wonderful idea! The cities have gotten bigger for sure but towards the middle there is still lots of farming areas and traditional places along the coast, just takes some driving. I personally haven't been able to visit most the places NS is known for, unfortunately. One day!

WOOT! Love seeing people who are close to us!

WE are in Shediac Cape (close to Moncton) NB - so are very close! I go up to NS a few times a year for chicken related fun. :p
Have you been to the buy.sell trade thing in Windsor? I only found out about it last year and meant to go but I was out of the province at the time :(

What other types of chicken fun is in NS? I have been to the Exhibition Park Maritime Fall Fair and another similar thing called the Halifax County Exhibition.. I know there's another one in the Annapolis Valley but I have never been to it. I have been looking for all the chicken related things I can get! Unfortunately I haven't found too many :(

Mostly the shows, and I purchased some birds over there from four different sources.

There is the fall show in September in Petitcodiac NB. There is one in August in Petitcodiac NB. One in Spring in PEI. If you have Facebook, look up the group: Farming in the Maritimes, Maritime Breeders and Exhibitors of Purebred Poultry, and Maritime Fowl. I find almost everyone that posts in those are from NS.

If you ever are looking for a source of HEALTHY chickens, I have plenty. I am very strict with biosecurity. CRD (Chronic Respiratory Disease) is rampant. That is most likely what your pullet had.

I have a few special needs chickens, but none that are ill. I have a blind cockerel, a couple with funky toes, and one who just caught her eye on something and I thought lost her eyeball, but it was just badly cut and swollen. I call her Woneyeda

Haha! What a name :) I'm glad you keep these special ones, instead of culling them like many people do. Their life is still valuable even with their special differences!

I will definitely check out those pages!

Just out of curiosity, what breeds do you keep?

Plymouth Rocks (barred and silver pencilled), Silkies (White, Blue, Black, Partridge and Splash), Naked Necks (barred and white), Buckeyes, Mottled Houdans, Easter Eggers (white and various other colours), Crested Easter Eggers, and Frizzles. I also have some mutts because they are still useful for eggs :)

Wow! What a selection! Your flock sounds beautiful

I've always had a special place in my heart for bantams so I figure I'll stick with that whenever I start a flock of my own.. I'll have a yard full of little chooks running around :)
I've never cared too much about the eggs (I don't even like eggs!), I just love the personalities of the birds. They're so fun.

I have this one little bantam Ameraucana you would love. She is no more than a pound, and is the cutest thing. I have one of her daughters as well.

Here she is. Little dainty Nora. :)

She lives with the silkies.
