Texas where we don't feed the Trolls...
I know people are always wondering when emu begin laying eggs for the season. So I figured we can update this thread with approximate start of laying dates for different areas of the country as a reference to give everyone ideas as to when to start hunting for eggs.

Just add your area, date of first eggs for the season and the approximate age of the emu if known

Our three year old laid her first egg of the season tonight (Dec. 2nd), her first egg last year came on December 10th...

Congrats!
Rose laid her 4th egg on Sunday evening. I had to wait for her to finish laying it and get off of the nest so I could grab it...

lol... I think she is beginning to wonder about choosing Dorian as a mate... she gave me a look like "I keep laying those darn things and he keeps losing them!"

My eldest Emu Rosie is getting very amorous and follows me everywhere, right behind me, then I suddenly stop and she bumped into me lol she did this last year too.
Her 1st year she started mid Jan......last year, 8. Dec..so should soon have an egg...then Jasmine 2 years younger should follow soon, her 1st egg was Dec.25.12.. totally unexpected.

tell those girls to get to work!

I got another egg from Rose.. then she either moved her nest or stopped laying.. we had another winter storm come through.. so I'm hoping it only put her off for a few days and she will be back to laying.. or if she has moved it I can find it before any more eggs freeze.. lol

Another local emu farmer has eggs now too... he said his started laying a few days after Rose did..
