It's nasty here. The wind is blowing it's snowing and it is pretty cold :/

Ugh! I'm so sorry for you! It's rainy here this week, one day on, then a couple days off, but still overcast.
But no snow.

I still miss my flip flops.

Okay. First day of the new year. =)
I'm going to try to post something everyday, even if it's just egg count.

Today's egg count: 4 (so far); three white and one light brown.
(yesterday's total was 3; two brown)

Currently, I'm trying to leave eggs in the nesting boxes unless it's going to be freezing that night. My goal is to get one of my hens to start sitting on them.

I read that sometimes one broody sitting can encourage a whole bunch of broodies to start sitting, so I guess I'll get more nesting set up. I'll probably start using display boxes from Sam's; 2 on top and 2 on bottom.

I will be ready to start incubating during the last half of this month. I have a homemade incubator and I know I can easily put the bottom of an 18-ct egg carton in it; I think I could put more, but I'm not interested in packing them in like sardines, so I'm just going to stick with 18 at a time.
I plan on hatching every three weeks. I'll hatch, then clean the incubator and let it sit for about 24 hours or so, then start getting it up to temp and collecting eggs to hatch. =)

That's pretty much it.
I'll post pics.

I'm using a light blue-ish color b/c it's cold. =)

Egg count for yesterday was five!!! I got a second brown egg. =D

Today, I've gotten 4 so far (two of each). =)

Nothing much else going on. Egg production seems to be picking up, but .... don't count your eggs before they're laid.

ETA: I did make a decision today. I shall take pictures of new chickens I get and peeps that I hatch. As I know that they're cockerels or pullets, and as I decide to keep them and/or which flock they're going to be in. I want to try to start taking more pictures. I realized that I had one chicken I never did take a picture of and two that I lost that I only have "bad" pictures of, meaning pictures of them either sick or dead. So, I'm going to make sure I have good pictures of all the chickens I have from now on. <determined nod of head>
