EXACT dosage for selenium and vitamin E for chicks with wry neck?

Hello, I have a leghorn chick who is one to two days old and is slowly developing wry neck. I have bought Poly Vi Sol, Selenium tablets and vitamin E liquid capsules, but I have no idea what to do with them, or what amounts to mix. Do I mix them all together? With what ratio? Do I dilute with water? Do I do them separately? How many times a day? Do I mix it with food? Selenium can be poisonous, so I feel safer having exact measurement rather than guessing. Can someone please help me with this? I have no idea what I'm doing, I've never had a chick with wry neck before. This chick is about half the size of all my other healthy chicks, if that helps with how much it should take. The Selenium tablets are 200 mcg (not mg) each, the vitamin E capsules are 400 I.U. each (these are some weird units, why can't they just use mg?), and the Poly Vi Sol came with a 1 ml liquid dropper. hello, I believe that the Poly Vi Sol includes selenium in it to help with absorption. I believe you only need to buy the tablets with vitamin E if you are not using poly vi sol or nutri-drench. Look on the ingredients list for selenite? Ack just saw how old this post is. How did your chick with wry neck grow out?
 
Hello, thanks for the advice. I don't see any selenite or Selenium on the label. What I ended up doing was guessing and mixing honey, water, three drops of Poly Vi Sol, some egg yolk, 1/8 a tablet (maybe even less) of Selenium, and one full capsule of vitamin E. Sometimes I doubled the amount if I put in too much water. I fed it to the chick with a medicine dropper, and it actually worked. I saw improvements in a couple days, but kept giving it to him for about a week after. He's now a healthy adolescent chick. What is interesting is that he is smaller than all of his brothers and sisters, though he was born at the same time. I wonder if it's just a coincidence or if the mixture stunted his growth. He did have some bleeding on the way out of the egg....But anyway, he's doing good. I think I got lucky with this, because I treated it at the first signs rather than waiting until it was horrible to treat it.

Awesome news! So happy to hear it. :) I also had a chick with wry neck about one week ago, so all wry neck posts are catching my eye I think lol... So glad that your chick is doing better :)

My wry neck roo is also one of the smallest chicks. He hatched very last, on day 23, and I assisted him. It did cross my mind that maybe he was too weak to hatch for a reason. I still treated him with vitamins anyway, and he was better in about 3 or 4 days! I used nutri-drench and it lists sodium selenite on the label. I was going to go to more stores looking for selenite until I read that! it's one of the last ingredients on the list. seems like it should be required for all vitamin supplements? ugh!
 
I highly doubt the mixture affected his growth. Blood coming out of the egg is likely the reason he's so small. Never had experience with wry neck but I like to be prepared so if it does happen, I'll know what to do. I had a roo hatch this summer, hatch a day too soon actually. He hadn't fully absorbed his yolk and the yolk was green, had to tuck him back in his shell for a full day and night. He was small too. Now its the king of the coop! Thanks for sharing what you did and that it worked.
 
I can definitely see your point. We don't breed our chickens, though, so in our case it was just saving a perfectly good layer hen, whom I am happy to say is doing quite well :)
 
Most of the postss re wry neck address chicks. I have a 11 mo old layer that has been effected foe three mo. Followed previois advice of vit E, selinium and B vits. She has a good appetite when feed with help holding up her head, but spendsmost of the rest of the day apparently sleeping, with head twisted and on the ground, butt up.
 
I have a 9 day old chick with wry neck syndrome. I've never had this problem before and didn't have any idea what to do about it. as usual I loged in to BYC and imediately found this link. I would like to thank you all for the info and I'll buy the selenium and vitamin e tomorrow. Where can I go to buy it?
