THANKS

You've got to predator proof your coop and lock them in every night. I don't even bother total proofing the run as most attacks are at night and that's when I have the coop door shut and they are safe excepting a bear attack. Hardware cloth your vent holes and take a good look at your coop to figure out how they may have gotten in.

I'm very sorry for your loss. Is your coop securely shut at night?

How do you know for sure it was a mink?

Sorry to hear about your chickens. I agree with egghead_jr the run is not as important to completely predator proof as the coop is as most attacks do happen at night. Mink and weasels can squeeze into small spaces so you need to go over your coop and any small gaps, holes, vents or windows need to be covered in hardware cloth. Is your coop not closed at night?

i am very positive its a mink becouse he killed loads and only ate the head off some and left the bodies he neatly packed the bodies away into a corner of my coop there is no other preditors in my area or ireland only weasels and foxes and its not a fox becouse there was no place nearly possible for a fox to get in or no hole dug and weasles dont eat the heads off the hens they eat the hole bodies
i put 3 traps up to release them very far away and we are going to put 3 electric wires the last one will be very close to the ground then we can only hope for the best

So sorry about your loss - I had a similar experience with a weasel. Hardware cloth is the only way to keep them out. You might try having someone in the coop after dark shine a light around to find smaller openings that you can then cover.

No matter how many predators you trap or kill, there will always be more along sooner or later. Securing your coop and run is the only way to protect your birds.

no coons in my area never ever seen a coon im not even sure if coons are in ireland but thanks anyway im quiete sure its a mink couse there are alot around my river area never seen them that far away from a river but i suppose its not to far but theres loads around the river :( the only way is catch them and kill them or release them far away they would just keep comming back other wise but thanks anyway thanks muttsfan aswell
