rooster collars??

Try cock collars instead. They're based out of Australia but shipping is only a few dollars. The collars are $5 each or something like that. They work MUCH better and are much easier. I havent had to adjust any of mine(been using them for months). I have 3 roos, each with a collar. No issues at all. They also come in different colors which is kind of neat.

I just don't want to tighten it too much because he is still growing and it just seems so tight. I can still get my pinky under and it barely seemed to lower the volume. But I'm worried that he will choke on his food or something. How are the cock collars different?

They're an elastic strip basically. There's more give, they dont tend to slide up or down, and theyre easier to get on the roo. My roos all adjusted to wearing them in a few minutes. I cant explain why they work better as far as volume reduction, the theory is the same for both, but they do. The NC gave me a 25% volume reduction. And i put it on just like the instructions said. I also had to retighten it every few days. The CC is at least 50% volume reduction on my head roo. I would think a bit less than that on my 2nd in command but i started using the collar on him as soon as he started crowing and after a few times trying to crow with the collar on he gave up and only crows occasionally. I could tighten it but he doesnt crow often enough to bother.

So did I when i bought one. I was skeptical of the cock collars when someone first mentioned them but they're pretty cool. I live in the suburbs but dont have to worry about my roos (i have 3) irritating my neighbors or waking them up in the morning.

I agree! I have both types of collars. Like CC better. Though my rooster pulls them both off in the first 10 minutes regardless of tightness of anything.

I used to work for a Vet who would o it. He used tissue glue down thru the open mouth of an anesthetized bird. You have to VERY careful where it goes, because you could glue the esophagus closed. He always made sure the owners knew the risks and that results were not guaranteed. Sometimes there was no effect, sometims partial and sometimes great.

This was posted a number of years ago but I had to take a contrary position here. Pouring surgical adhesive down rooster's throat? Really? Sorry roosters have many sounds they make, a majority are essential to the flock and their protection. A properly fitted collar will prevent the air sac from filling decreasing the force/decibel of the crowing. If your rooster absolutely will not accept it, you can remove it. But pouring super glue down your rooster's throat is sheer insanity and grossly inhumane. Roosters crow...get over it.
