I have a new chick that still had this little "umbilical cord" still attached. I left it alone for several hours but it was having trouble moving with the shell still attached. I gave it a little tug to try to pull it off but that didn't work. Since that didn't bother her, i clipped the string of slime with sterile scissors. She is much happier now and seems very healthy. I did not clip the entire string off so there is still a small bit there. My question is... When she is totally dry and ready to be moved to the brooder (with other 1-3 day olds from the same batch) will they try to peck that gunk or otherwise try to harm her? I believe chicken will go after others with wounds, etc. so I am a little worried.
