Zero Egg production.

They cannot lay eggs while molting, all their protein has to go into regrowing feathers (which are 98% protein). Then when they feather back in, they have to get their body weight back up to a safe level before they can give you eggs again. Some hens molt faster than others, but generally the process takes several months. When you see their combs go from pale and shriveled to bright and red again, they will be laying again soon.
My 5 girls will be 3 at the end of June. For the past 2 years-November is the month when they start their big molt......this year and last I had no eggs from November till mid February. 2 of the 5 have started laying again .Any day now I expect all 5 laying regularly as their combs and wattles are red and all 5 are squatting.

I have 6 hens and hadnt had an egg for a good few months, so i thought id try improve their quality of life...cleaning ,sweeping and treating a lot more frequently...not that i was neglecting them. after giving them a lot more tlc works wonders ahah 2 have started laying and 1 just today such a small egg bless her. obviously you have the winter and moulting factors to take into consideration but honestly i do my best to encourage but naturally. Artificial lighting isn't for me or my electric bill lol i say try giving them some motivational enrichments a stroke here and there if they enjoy that aha.
