Salem Oregon Laws.

Well, this response is pushing three years after the questions but I think I have an up-to-date answer and wanted to share:
SalemChickens(dot)com's homepage has two links of special interest: the new Salem, Oregon chicken ordinance (we can have 'em!), and the link for apply to get a chicken-keeping permit.
Hope you find this useful, and happy chickeneering!!

Update: as of 3/19/12 we can now have FIVE hens in Salem, there will no longer be yearly inspections and our coops can now be closer to our houses and too our fences/neighbors too.

Interesting thing though...The city of Salem is in two counties the ordinances apply only to Marion County because on the Polk County side chickens have always been allowed and people ever keep roosters.

Hi,
I know this is an old post but I wanted to let everyone know that Chickens are now allowed in Salem, OR. At least to a limit. I am the daughter of the future City Councilmen and we own a chicken coop. Apparently though the limit is three chickens and there are other laws and regulations I am not sure about, but will let you know once I know. You have to follow these laws and then get a special permit as well as have someone come out to inspect the set up.
I hope this is some inspiration for those who feel unfair. :)
