A raccoon partially got into my coop. Out of 45 chickens I only lost two and my Polish hen, Sweetie, has a serious beak injury. She is alert and active, but separated and in the house. I'm feeding her a paste of rooster booster, chicken food, and mealworms sure with syringe. She's losing weight though. I'm not sure yet if she's able to get food and her mouth on her own or not. I think she might not be able to. I would appreciate any advice! Thank you very much.

Oh poor baby. You can wet her feed to see if she can get it, but tube feeding may be the best bet to keep her nutrition up until you find out what can be done for the beak. Aquarium tubing from WalMart combined with a 35 or 60 cc/ml regular tip syringe will work. Here is a link for several tube feeding threads and videos: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/805728/go-team-tube-feeding

Also here is another thread with a similar injury. You may find the links helpful Good luck: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/846501/beak-loss-injury-result-total-amputation-of-top-beak

Thank you so much for the links! I'm using a lot of the advice, including the syringe sizes you mentioned. Her vet is on vacation until the 24th and I can't afford to take her to a different vet since the one I use is very reasonable. She is perky and doesn't seem in pain or even upset at all. She's also being very a accommodating regarding the uncomfortable feeding. Thanks do much for the links!

We have a Polish him that needs more Polish hens for buddies does anyone wish to adopt this Polish hand
