This might be a silly question....but.....

I am interested in adding a couple Easter Eggers to my flock this spring when my local co-op gets their chicks in. However...I am wondering if there is a way to tell what color they will be when adults?

My current flock is 5 black australorps and one Wyandotte. I tend to like grey/black birds for whatever reason. I also tend to think it would be easier to integrate the new girls if the color isn't too different.

Don't worry, I won't get rid of the EEs if they don't turn out the color I wanted. They still will be luuurved up. :)

Hmmmm....sounds like I will just have to choose carefully and keep my fingers crossed!

Also, as chicks, can you tell if they will have muffs or not?

You can usually see a beard or muffs as a new chick.

There used to be a thread here somewhere where folks posted pics of the chicks and then the adult plumage, not sure where it is now. Don't know how much help it will be, I've also had chicks that looked very similar turn out pretty different. I think you'd be able to tell grey/black from red/gold, though. My only thought is, lots of black and white EEs are roosters

I was wondering the same thing about picking out EEs. I think I'll be getting mine on Thursday or Friday- and I'm really hoping that I can select two that are either blue, lavender, or wheaten. I'm just not that excited about having a brown chicken. But, like you, I can still love a chicken despite its coloring. I'll post pics of my new babies when I get them (hopefully this week!) and as they feather out, so maybe that can help you.

I hatched some eggs from my own chickens, EE hens with different breeds roosters.
They were already bearded as new chicks. I only had two blue/grey chicks, that kept this color when feathered out.

our 4 day old Sunshine. I am curious, will her/his legs change color? Right now they are yellow, but her dad is an easter egger and mom is a maran. will the legs turn to the slate color? With the heat lamp, her coloring is off, but she/he is yellow with some reddish possibly.
