Hi everyone! Ok im not sure if this is where I should post this but im having some trouble with my new puppy.we got her about a week ago when she was 9 weeks and she seemed a little reserved when we first met her which I figured was normal. She has warmed up to my husband and I very well. She follows us around wanting to play. My question is, she growls and bites at my two labs. Both labs are very laid back and submissive. She will go up to their kennels and wag her tail and try to play but the second that are out she starts growling and snapping.
Of course we haven't just let them all run free together, both my labs have been on a leash when she came to see them. I think she is scared of them and that's why she's acting this way since her tail is tucked and she snaps and runs away from them. If anyone has any advise or tips to help with this I would really appreciate it!

Naturally, they would be a potential threat. She is telling them they can't hurt her without hurting themselves.

A lot of pups do it. My Rotty did it with a great dane.... and every other dog she met.

Just leave her to it her, the older dogs will teach her her place & some manners. That will bring her down a peg if its dominance.

I would do a two week shutdown with her. She is scared of the Labs and telling them to back off and leave her alone!

Keep her by herself for two weeks. Obviously you and your husband should still interact with her. Give her time to adjust to her new home, family, routines, etc. before she has to deal with being introduced to other animals, people, etc.

Thanks for all the help! I did let her meet my older lab again today and it went great! They played for about 30 minutes. He is a lot calmer so I think that helped. She didn't growl at all this time. She met my younger lab a little later and she growled when he got to nosey and then he went back not as nosey and they played for a little while.

Sounds like your dog is a dominant one! (or bossy; whatever you want to call it). It's great that they're getting along; I wouldn't worry about the puppy growling. She can't do much at 10 weeks. Make sure you don't give her all the attention or she'll start thinking she's "all that". Also, remember that not all growling is bad; my dog growls about everything, but there's a big difference between "Hi" and "Stay away". Maybe you LGD is a talker?

I think what you were dealing with was nothing more than fear of a larger, strange dog. It sounds as if you are solving the problem with controlled socialization.

I am glad things are starting to work out for your dog. I don't know how experienced you are with Pyrs, so forgive me if I am already preaching to the choir

I would suggest you to take your Pyr on a walk with one of your labs. They both should be on a leash. Being 10 wks old, she might not have come to you leash trained yet, but it's worth a try. It doesn't have to be a long walk because of her age and attention span. Just long enough that the dogs walk together with you leading the way. Wait long enough for your Pyr to rest and then do it again with the other lab. Soon the 3 of them will be able to walk together. I am assuming your labs are leash trained.
You will be amazed at what a little walk on a leash can do to keep the peace in the pack. Another thing: have her play a little to release some pent up energy before the walk.

As you might already know, Pyrs tend to be a little standoffish in the beginning and like to be introduced to other animals and humans. You want your dog to be well socialized in order to avoid problems in the future. 10 weeks is a great age to introduce and expose her to different people, animals, sights and smells. Don't let people she doesn't know come right to her and shower her with love. That is scary. She needs to have good experiences or she'll grow shy and afraid.
Have a gentle introduction and let your Pyr warm up to whoever or whatever is new. Best of luck with your dog. You'll have a great dog in your hands after properly socialized.

don't try hiding her away from the others, it will only make things worse for her socialization skills in the long run. She is 10 weeks old, now is the perfect time to socialize her with other pets & people.

Just an update on annabelle. She is doing great with my two labs as well as my neighbors dogs. After the first week or so she warmed right up to everyone and she goes into the chicken run with me everyday(on a leash for now) and loves it. Thanks for all the responses!!

The worst predator I have is stray/neighbor dogs running loose. I had two rip two dairy goats throats out and they bled to death. The dogs were nice "family pets" allowed to run loose (even after the neighbor was warned). If I was in your position I definitely would not allow my dog to warm up to the neighbor's dogs at all. Right now I have a PACK of neighbor's dogs running the neighborhood and it is only a matter of time before they discover my chickens and try their best to get them. I am in the market for a dog like yours and its main job will be dealing with strays/neighbor's dogs. I want my dog to have zero tolerance for trespassing dogs as well as other predators. When/if you take them OFF the property is one thing but they need to be the boss of their property when it comes to any other dog. I hope to find a pup like yours.
