Tonight when i was putting my chickens away for the night, i noticed one of my hens had bubbles on the bottom part of both her eyes. She is one of the younger ones we have, she was hatched in October 2012. She still runs around and is eating. She isn't coughing or sneezing and her breathing sounds fine. It is just her eyes that are watery and the bottom is lined with bubbles. And she isn't acting at all out of the ordinary, just her eyes. She does seem to be able to see. There are no other hens that have this happening. They all seem fine.

Please help! Any idea what caused this and what i can do to treat it?

This may be just the beginning of a respiratory disease, or it could have been a peck in the eye. It may or may not progress to nasal drainage or swelling around the eyes and face. If the symptoms are mild with just eye and nasal drainage, it may be a mild strain of mycoplasma (MG or CRD,) but with other symptoms, it could be coryza or something else. Many of these diseases are chronic, and survivers can be lifelong carriers. Watch for sneezing, or rattles/wheeze/gasping. Here is a list of diseases--MG, coryza, and infectious bronchitis are some common ones to read about: http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/ps044

So what should i do? Is there something i should give her? Should i separate her from the others? Or is it best to put her down if she doesn't get better?

If you have a way to separate her, I would, although the others could have already been exposed to whatever she has. I would calm down, and not do anything drastic. You can get some Tylan 50 injection, with 5 syringes and 5 needles (25 gauge 5/8 inch) and give 1 ml into the breast muscle for 3-5 days, or some Gallimycin (erythromycin) for the water. Tylan also makes a soluble powder for the water, but is pricey. Only treat the sick chicken, not the others, unless they get sick. If she should develop the swelling in her face or eyes, or have a bad odor around her head, check back in--that might mean coryza.

I had a hen that had this once, she got water up her nose when drinking water and both eyes were bubbly. It only last maybe 30 min to 1 hr approximately. She was fine, never happened again. See what tomorrow brings. If she still has it, than Its concerning, I completely agree with Eggcessive.

Thank you guys so much. You've given me a lot to go on. Hopefully she will be fine in the morning.
Eggcessive - you mentioned Gallimycin to be put in the water. If i was to go with that should i just give it to the sick chicken or put that in the water for all the chickens? I live in a rural area, do you know the best place to find the two treatments you suggested?

Again thank you for the help!

Most farm stores will stock Tylan50 and Tylan Soluble Powder in the cattle meds section. The gallimycin/erthromycin might be better found online. There are many brands of tetracycline (Duramycin, Oxytetracylcine or Oxytet, Terramycin) that may also help and may be less expensive, although Tylan 50 is about $12. Just Google any of those drugs to find them online-- here is one link:http://www.jefferspet.com/gallimycin-powder/camid/liv/cp/WJ-G5/

Sorry it took me so long to update this post. But I wanted to let you guys know that everything is fine with my hen. I checked her the next morning and she was fine, no sign of any runny bubbles on her eyes. And every day since she has been fine. Thanks for all the help and advice. :)
