NEVER ORDER FROM IDEAL POULTRY

Is it common practice in America to have ducklings shipped? And if so, why?
I am forever reading on here about ducklings arriving dead or sick or die within a few days due to shipping. I don't understand why you would do that?
If you can't get yourself to a close hatchery or have them delivered within a day... ? I don't know, I feel it is unfair that a humans want for something would then result in deaths and troubles for the ducklings.

It seems to be fairly common, i think unfortunately, massive weather extremes this year has made this practice more risky than it once was.

In my country most are shipped to the feed mills... or picked up at the hatchery a few ship but not within my province due to lack of reliable methods.

Ideal is most definitely NOT a middleman. They are an actual hatchery, based in Cameron, Texas. The online-only places get their chicks from other sources, like Ideal, McMurray, etc.

Ideal is close enough to me that I can pick my chicks up at their offices. I have always had wonderful service from them. They state their shipping practices clearly, and are very helpful via phone and email.

Things happen when you ship live animals. It's never fun to open a box of dead babies, but it's part of the risk taken.
