Chic Chick 'Bator *UPDATED*

MrsBeez: I'm new to all of this too, but I've been reading about it for three months before attempting it. We're going to hatch on the same day and probably the same hour! I put mine in yesterday about 1:00 as well.
I made a homemade incubator as well and I put all of the eggs in an egg tray with the bottoms cut out so the heat could get through. This is on top of a clothwire shelf and to turn my eggs, I place an empty egg carton under the front and then the back of the bator 3 times a day (from the outside). It tilts them perfectly for me to do this and there's no need to open the bator and disturb the heat and humidity.

I've got all of my stuff and am ready to put this bator together.
I bought the same hot water heater thermostat from Home Depot that has been pictured in many of the posts on this thread. My only problem is that the guy that sold it to me told my daughter and I how it could get us both electrocuted. Now she's afraid of doing this. I see all these posts of kids helping with bators. Is this really a concern or was he nuts? I'm interested in hearing all opinions.
Thanks for your help!

My 9 yr old son helped with mine. He doesn't get to grab the wires while it's plugged in, and I do the temp adjustments so I keep my hands away from the wires too.

It's kinda like stickin your foot under a lawnmower, it can happen, but it's pretty easy to avoid.

My DH insisted that I put a little sliver of electrical tape over where the wires were attached to the thermostat. That will keep you from getting electrocuted by accident. Also, if you decide to do this, be sure to unplug before you try. Seriously!

Thank you Chicky Tocks and AK Michelle for all your help. It's all done and I'm ready to plug it in and start watching the temps.
Thanks again!

Hi,
So Id like to see if anyone can give me some help.
My husband is going to try and make me one.
I showed him the one Al(I think) made in the cabnet. My husband said hay we have a cabnet I can do that for you.
So here are my questions.
1, do you want the lamp for heat at the top or bottom and why.
2 do you want the water and fan on the top or bottom and why.
3 what do I need to keep check on everything for humidity and heat.
4. I saw that the thermastat thing was not sold at home depot or lowes any more so where would I get that at.
5 why do yo like the wafer thing and why dont you like it the pros and cons.
Im sorry for asking so much its just if he makes it, I better know what to tell him when he asks me why and where. And yes have everything for him.
Will the comp fan be enough for the flow of air?
Vent holes I saw at the bottom and top bottom small and top big? How big and how small please. And where like above the heat below the heat.
Thank you so much ahead of time.

Make a hatcher. I have 3 of those huge boxes from Omaha Steaks someone gave me. I am holding on to them. You never know when you will need an emergency incubator or hatcher.
