Animals and humans get their behavior from the adults. Chickens are no different if they don't have a nurturing mother then they most likely won't brood. Brooding and bonding is important to establish Behavior of adult chickens. Of course there will be some that will brood without having been brooded but like all animals the bonding of the mother is important and gives them that sense of caring and being cared for. I have noticed it for some time about animals and humans and I have read some reports about human bonding and dog bonding so I'm assuming that it's probably true in hens and chicks. recently I watched a one day old chick playing with the mother hen. It was really something. I also believe that brood hatching is best.
