Candeling and hatching diary.

craptastic. I just pushed the hi/low button on my thermometer and it said 105? When did that happen? How long was that spike? I am hoping the probe just came into contact with the element or something...the incubator has been at 99 solidly for 2 weeks without going over 100. I don't know why it would suddenly go to 105....what the heck?

hopefully everything will be ok, if it was just a short period of time. If it's a rubbish 'bator like mine, sometimes it gets too warm for about 5 mins to deal with you opening the lid and it losing heat. I'm totally making me an incubator next time and putting this heap of rubbish in the cupboard (to take a part on a rainy day and pretend to know what I'm looking at).

Only bought it 6 months ago and it fluctuates so much, I feel like I'm not going to be able to relax until something's hatched. Hatching can be so stressful I wonder why I'm doing this to myself!

Yeh same, I don't trust my incubator anymore, our relationship is rocky to say the least.
To sleep well at night and to be able to leave the house without worrying they're dying is important. The incubator has ONE JOB!!
Once the trust has gone, you're left with a device that 'kind've works..?' and it's not good enough, needs to be brilliant, all or nothing. Stoopid machine...

Mine was really good all along about coming back to temp and being super stable. I have to think this was a fluke and the sensor just touched something it shouldn't have. I wish it would hurry up and be day 21 already!

Soon! You wanna trade with me? I do lockdown on this group next Tuesday, and I'm already biting my cuticles!

LOL no, another 48 hours is plenty for me. I am really hoping to see some pips or something at least on saturday but sunday is hatch day technically. If I am unlucky they'll be late.

how many days before do you guys stop turning? I normally do 3 but I'm trying to take into account they may be a day early...and what is the longest or shortest time for it? Does it really make that much difference? How does then hen just stop moving them? I find it hard to believe they don't move at all for 3 or 4 days in the nest before hatch...

I have read that you can stop turning them after day 14 but that most people just stop on 18 when they lock down because it's easier to that way...I took our my turner on day 17 so I would have a day to work through any temp problems due to having removed it before lockdown.
