So I checked in on my chickens around noon and found one hen who had been pecked really bad on her back to the point of bleeding. She has a bloody bald patch on her back at least 2" square and the back of her neck has been pecked, but not bloody. She was fine 4 hrs before. I think she started molting about a week ago. She has been separated and seems to have low energy. I'm going to clean her up as best I can and am wondering about first aid. I've heard of Blue Coat? How should I clean her up proper and is there something I should put on her wounds?. She is in her own isolation coop with food, treats, water and a heat lamp. I'm nervous about giving her company also as I don't trust the other hens to not pick her. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks.
 
Isolating her was the right choice. I use Wound-Kote on my chickens because it helps to cover up the color of blood and kills the harmful bacteria. I had a hen who got pecked so bad once, you could see some of her veins. We isolated her, sprayed the area with Wound-Kote, and kept her warm, dry, and supplied with plenty of food and water. As bad as her injuries were, I honestly thought she wouldn't make it, but she pulled right through and is doing great. To help your hen heal, you might try adding Poultry Nutri-Drench to her water. It's a vitamin and electrolyte supplement designed to help them in stressful times.
 
We had a pretty bad pecking problem with our first hens. We bought chicken aprons for them and it broke them of the pecking. There are some great people on byc selling aprons for cheap. As a nice side effect, they look really cute with clothes on!
 
Update: I saw the same thing happening again to another SLW today in the coop. I have 6 of these all the same age and they seem to be going into molt, including the rooster. They start to lose feathers and the others start to pick them out for them, to the point of making them bloody. 2 are separated now with electrolytes in their water and are getting blu-kote. They are more active now than this morning. I hope for the best.... Thanks for your input!
