aggresive guinea?

Is the aggressive guinea a male? I have raised them for a few yrs and I free range but then they got into the coop the guineas would start pecking every one. Last yr two of my male guineas guarded the water and one of my turkeys died cause it was not able to drink. This time I have 3 waters and so no prob. So yes I do think they will hurt them but that could just be mine.

i have NOOO idea if its a male or not i just have a single guinea do you know of a way to tell? but i mean it only pics on acouple chickens but if it does get into hurting the chicks when the hens start going broody this summer then its going to the chopping block!!! lol

I used to know how to sex guineas when we had them, and it was very easy. You need to listen to them. The males and females make a different sound.
I'm having a senior moment

and forget which is which. It's been a whiiiiiile since we had guineas but I think the hens make the two syllable sound and the guys the single single syllable like wheet -wheet vs wheet. You can definitely hear the difference. At the time we had both sexes.
You can google it and it will tell you which is which.

I checked online. The girls make a two syllable sound while for the boys it is one, which they can repeat. But the girls are much quicker saying it. Probably easier to tell apart if you have some of each sex, but if you listen you should be able to tell if your bird is saying a one syllable call or stringing it together into two syllables

I have a neighbor who has 2 male guineas with his chickens and turkeys. Last year those two guineas deviled his chickens and turkeys something terrible. After one of the turkey hens came home with her new poults, one of the guinea males decided to adopt the poults. The turkey hen tried her best to run the guinea off but finally gave up. The longer the guinea stayed with the poults, the less the turkey hen spent time with them. At first it became sort of a babysitting thing with the guinea caring for the poults when the turkey hen would take a break and finally ended with the hen just letting the guinea take over completely while she went and tried to start a new family of her own.

Just because this one guinea acted this way does not mean that your guinea will respond in the same way. In a normal guinea flock, it is common practice for the males to participate in the keet raising.

Good luck and if it does come down to the chopping block, guineas are considered a delicacy.

lol It kind of makes that heat heat ...heat heat...heat heat. sound so girl maybe?! idk id hate to take it to the chopping block because I went threw SOOO **** much trouble keeping this guinea alive when it was younger it wasn't even FUNNY but I guess the only way we will know is to find out! im actually really shocked that is it the way it is because of the fact a chicken raised it! i guess its not to awfully agressive it just BUGS THE HELL out of the chickens never full blown attacks them but still if it did it to a chick it would KILL IT! lol but owell we shall see!!! I was going to raise acouple more with this spring but idk yet well see how this pans out lol!! if I do ill probly keep them outside of the coop let them run around the farm

You need more guineas! At least 10 so they will not bother other fowl. With that many they will fight among themselves and not go after the chickens. Mine never go after my chickens or ducks, they are too busy going after each other

Yes, it sounds like you might need more guineas. In order for them to happy, there needs to be a minimum of ten in a flock. I also have chickens and ducks, and my guineas are too busy interacting within the flock to be bothered with the rest of the barnyard. If you're considering getting more this spring, please consider getting enough to raise your total to at least 10.

I have/had three guineas and they have been fab, I just lost one recently whom was killed, but in all honesty they just interact beautifully, I have recently had ducklings hatch and they shared the enclosure area with my two mum ducks and the drake and do not bother the young at all...They can be bossy around treat time with my chickens, but mostly they all eat the treats together and then just on their merry way. I have had no issues with three, now only two and they co exist fine with all the others...I have just had 7 guineas hatch with the help of their foster mum (chicken) and I am going to keep them all, so I hope they are as quiet and well mannered as the two I have! They free range in a large fenced paddock in the day and then take themselves off to bed at night...they are locked up each night and as mentioned live with the ducks and ducklings..my drake has a twinkle in his eye for the female guinea, they sleep next to each other every night, but in the day she spends it with her male counterpart! Perhaps your Guinea just needs another guinea, so he/she has company of the same :)
